Why am I not losing weight?

September 3rd, 2010

I’m a 30 year old female, and I started running about 23 days ago. I usually do the alternate running/walking method, where I run two minutes and walk two minutes for about 30 minutes overall. Then, once I’m done, I meander over to the bike, where I spin 5 minutes at a 9 speed and 5 at a 10 speed. Altogether, I’m averaging about 280 calories in total, 7 days a week. I’m currently 5′7, 240lbs, and wear a size 16. I’ve always been super heavy, yet very muscular and athletic. But for some odd reason, I haven’t lost any weight with my 23-day workout. I see some tone in my legs, but not much. I’ve even trimmed my caloric intake down to about 1200 a day. What gives? Even if I’m not burning a gazillion calories working out, the frequency in which I’m hitting the gym should at least be doing a little something more, shouldn’t it?

Any indoor exercises?

September 2nd, 2010

I am stuck at home and it’s too late to go outside for a run or a bike ride. Any indoor exercises I can do? Be specific and detailed about the exercises and tell me how many calories they burn.

What are the best workouts for a six pack?

September 2nd, 2010

I almost have one. I have it on top, but not bottom. How do I get that line on the bottom? What workouts do I do. And body fat is not an issue.

Thanks

Is this a good work out schedule?

September 1st, 2010

okay
so of course spring break is coming up and i want to look good but also track season in about two months and i need to get some muscle tone
my plan
5:15am to 6:15am swim
6:15am to 7:00am weight training
7:00am to 7:15am cool down/stretch
then i have to go to school until 3:00pm
after school alternate running 5 miles, 2 miles, 5 miles, 3 miles then 8 miles respectively
after running just a bit of stretching and ab work (30 minutes worth)

this is during the week
on the weekends just a easy 2 miles cool down run
(nothing too intense on the weekends)

maybe switching it up in the mornings would be good, but first i need to get into a set routine
yeah it is a lot
but im looking to gain a lot of muscle weight without putting too much strain on my knees since they are already bad (hence the swimming)
any other suggestions to gain muscle without putting stress on my joints?

meeting PT requirements for enlistment?

August 30th, 2010

I’ve been trying to drop my weight to make me eligible to enlist in either the Air Force or Army. I’m now only 12 pounds from meeting the Air Force requirements but about 25 from the Army. I dropped about 25 by changing my diet and working out (I alternate running and walking every day). My question is, do I have to meet the minimum PT requirements before I can enlist? Such as pushups, situps, etc? Or will they take me if I make weight as long as I can meet the requirements before I ship off to basic? Another issue I’m having is while I’ve been steadily increasing the amount of time I spend exercising, I haven’t been able to increase my continuous run time much. I know I have to be able to run a mile, mile and a half in so much time, any suggestions for helping me be able to run longer at one time before having to stop and walk?

August 29th, 2010

I normally run 8 miles in the morning but it’s snowing and super cold so I can’t do that and I don’t have a treadmill and can’t go to the gym…what exercises can I do at home instead? I have a stationary bike…would I have to bike 8 miles on that? Also, what are some aerobic exercises?

I just started running cross-country, and I need some ways to help me get in shape…?

August 28th, 2010

I love to run, but it’s so demanding! Today at practice we ran a 5k, and I ran 2/3 of it and alternated running/walking for the last part. I’d love to be able to run the whole thing, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting into shape quickly and how to push myself? I have asthma, so my lungs tend to burn a bit after a while but it’s not unbearable. Other than that I just need to train my legs and heart, so any suggestions? Thanks!
